Digital fashion label Tribute Brand, sustainable knitwear brand Waste Yarn Project and Chromie Squiggles, digital art gallery Art Blocks’ flagship NFT collection, are collaborating on a joint phygital project.
Together, the labels create knit sweaters made entirely from surplus yarns. The unique sweaters are designed using a “random system” based on the “Chromie Squiggle code”.
A digital script converts the digital “Chromie Squiggle source code” to create unique physical and digital wearables. Customers can change the design at the touch of a button on a corresponding website and ultimately buy their preferred pattern.
There are several variables that affect the design of the sweater. The main variable that determines the result of the sweater is the “chromie squiggle type”. There are the terms normal, fat, fuzzy, slinky, ribbed, and pipe, which are commonly used in knitting to describe the appearance of the yarn or the knitting stitch. The Chromie Squiggle type also controls the color and its placement on the knitted areas.
The sweaters feature embedded Tribute-branded NFC chips that connect to the Tribute app. This connection is also used for authentication and also provides care instructions and the ability to change the digital look of the sweater using AR technology.
Since last week, the knit sweaters can be generated and bought in the Tribute Brand web shop for 550 US dollars (around 510.92 euros).
