Anne Haug finished the last triathlon season as the leader in the Professional Triathletes Organization world rankings. The 40-year-old Hawaii runner-up defended her top ranking from last year.
Of the total two million US dollars (around 1.82 million euros) in prize money, Haug will receive 100,000 US dollars (around 91,000 euros). The PTO announced this.
Being at the top again makes her proud, Haug said in the statement. “It’s been a great year for me.” In addition to her second place at the Ironman World Championships, the German got the necessary points with her victory at the PTO European Open and second place at the PTO Asian Open.
The races from different series are included in the ranking. The average of an athlete’s three best results over a period of 52 weeks is decisive for the ranking in the PTO ranking. In the men’s category, ex-Ironman world champion Kristian Blummenfelt from Norway defended his first world ranking.
