Triathlete Hellwig misses the podium

Triathlete Tim Hellwig missed the podium by a hair’s breadth at the fourth stop of the World Championship Series.

In Montreal, Canada, the 23-year-old finished 16 seconds behind the Australian stage winner Matthew Hauser, who celebrated his first ever WTCS victory.

Hellwig, German Champion 2021 on the sprint distance, was only a second behind third-placed Jelle Geens (Belgium). Manoel Messias (Brazil) secured second place.

Almost three weeks before the Sprint World Championships in Hamburg (July 13th to 16th), Jonas Schomburg, who was in good form recently, was the second-best German starter in twelfth place, closely followed by Jannik Schaufler (18th). Meanwhile, Valentin Wernz (42nd) had no chance.

The German triathletes had previously missed the podium places, some of them clearly. Laura Lindemann, second at last year’s short-distance European Championships, finished the competition in eleventh place, 48 seconds behind the winner, Beth Potter (Great Britain).

Lena Meißner (29th), Annika Koch (33rd) and Anabel Knoll (45th) – who, like Lindemann, had been nominated for the home World Cup during the week – were able to swim over 750 meters, cycle 20 kilometers and run five kilometers not keep up with the best of the day.
