Trial of man who killed Jessy and Wibe in Italy postponed: “Disillusioned”

Today was the first day of the trial in Rome, but the further trial has been postponed to September 26, Jessy’s mother Evelyne said.

There may not be a ruling on September 26. The lawyer for the fatal driver now argues that the accident happened due to the earlier accident in which the two women were helping. “But he was completely under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He didn’t even remember that he was on the highway,” Evelyne tells our editors.

“Not a single word of regret”

The defendant himself was not present at the trial. “We are disappointed, because we wanted to look him in the eye. He would not have been present because he was ashamed. But he has not expressed a single word of regret in those eleven months.”

The facts took place on October 8, 2022 on a highway near Rome. The two women were in a car on the highway, but witnessed a serious accident. Jessy and Wibe got out on the hard shoulder to provide assistance.

A little later they were hit by another car, driven by Italian man Francesco M, who was in his fifties. He continued driving after the accident. It later turned out that he was under the influence of alcohol, drugs and no longer had a driver’s license. The man also drove too fast and therefore committed a hit-and-run accident. He has been in jail since the accident, which is unusual.
