Summer 2023 marks a boom in private flights to Punta del Este, with the Argentines returning en masse to the Uruguayan beaches. The trend is reflected in that more than 20% of passengers who arrived at the Laguna del Sauce airport in Laguna del Sauce, did so through private flights, either by air taxis or their own planes.
Of that batch, the 70% of passengers who arrived in Punta del Este by non-commercial flights they were argentine (22% Brazilian, 5% Paraguayan and the rest is made up of Chileans, North Americans and Europeans).
According to Ángel Rivero, airport manager Willow LagoonBefore the pandemic, they received an average of 200,000 passengers in season. “By summer 2021/22 we had just over half. For this season we hope to receive an average of 125,000”. Fall linked to the decrease in flight frequencies, a scenario that charters compensated for, becoming the alternative for VIP users and celebrities.
According to data from flappersa private plane rental company on demand that recently landed in Argentina, demand grew 66% compared to the same month of 2019 (pre-pandemic). From the San Fernando International Airport (the excellent executive spot and from where the company operates) it increased by 75%.
In January, the company transferred celebrities such as Zaira Nara, Sofía Jujuy and Rusherking, Chiara Parravicini, Milca Gili, Caro Domenech, Mercedes Funes and Cecilio Flemati, among many others. “This is a season of absolute record and that is reflected both in the number of celebrities that were present as in the figures of the flights that join the route Buenos Aires – Punta del Este”, explains Julio Manco, Executive Director & Country Manager of Argentina and Uruguay of Flapper.
“In our case, for example, we launched for the first time the modality of shared flights in private planes between both destinations and the demand far exceeded expectations, with all flights with an average occupancy of around 70%”, he adds.
“The advantages we offer over commercial airlines is that in our flights there are no delays, nor schedule changesMuch less cancellations… except for weather issues. And we offer a unique and personalized experience based on the needs and requirements of each passenger. It is a luxury, within everything, accessible to demanding travelers”, explains Manco.
“Many of our clients replaced the use of other means of transport for our service. It’s about the most demanding travelersthose who cannot afford to miss a flight or change a schedule, or those who want the trip to be a comfortable moment, that the vacations begin before arriving at the destination, at the very moment of reserving a seat and getting on the a flight,” he concludes.
