A 91-year-old woman and her son were slightly injured on Friday afternoon in Loon op Zand, when a huge branch of a 20-meter-high tree fell over and landed on their moving car. The victims escaped with minor injuries, police said.
The accident happened on the Finantiën in Loon op Zand. It is being investigated how the tree fell. An employee of the tree harvester who is conducting research estimates that the American oak is about 80 years old .
When it fell, the tree also took a lamppost with it. This exposes cables. The damage to the car is extensive and the road is closed to traffic. The injured were transported to hospital in an ambulance.
