Treasurer Fabian Buiter of Municipal Interests Oldambt is stepping down from his position immediately, he says on Twitter. He has also resigned from the party. This is due to the desire of the coalition parties to close the swimming pool and sports hall Hardenberg in Finsterwolde.
The coalition aims to save more than half a million euros on an annual basis. The city council will make a decision on that closure on Wednesday evening. The coalition parties will agree to the closure during that council, although they do ask for a postponement.
Whether that is enough to let the curtain fall over the facilities in Finsterwolde, however, remains to be seen. The coalition parties have a minimum majority in the municipal council.
