The launch event in Egypt cannot take place due to major security concerns.
At the beginning of July, US rapper Travis Scott announced a launch event for his UTOPIA record for July 28th in the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. But as soon as you register, the event has to be canceled again. Reason for this: Scott’s “strange rituals”.
According to reports from The Egypt Independent, Egypt’s General Syndicate for Musical Professions said on Tuesday (July 18) that there were safety concerns at the rapper’s concert at the Egyptian Pyramids and fears of cultural damage as a result of Scott’s performance. Specifically it says:
“Following investigation and documented information regarding strange rituals at Travis’ concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to revoke the license for this type of concert, which contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people .”
In doing so, they are concerned about the “stability” of the country’s culture and “refuse to shake social values and Egyptian and Arabic customs,” the organization continues. Travis Scott has yet to comment on the cancellation. What exactly is meant by Scott’s rituals also remains open.
Scott’s current album ASTROWORLD was released five years ago. The 32-year-old already announced the successor to the album UTOPIA in 2020, although its release had to be pushed back again and again. There is no new release date for the record, just as little as a new announcement as to where and when the UTOPIA launch can take place instead.
ASTROWORLD is the most successful work by Travis Scott, who has released a total of three records since 2015. This third record from 2018 achieved gold status in Germany as well as platinum in several countries.
