Both the new album and a film directed by Harmony Korine will be released on July 28th.
Travis Scott used his appearance at Miami’s Rolling Loud Festival to confirm the July 28 release date for his album UTOPIA and showed the trailer for the accompanying movie, Circus Maximus, which is slated for release on the same date.
Mystery of mysterious film revealed
At the beginning of July it became known that the director Harmony Korine (“Spring Breakers”, “Kids”) was secretly working on a film that was written by Scott and in which the musician should also play. Now the US rapper ended speculation about the work and, after his one-hour appearance at the Rolling Loud Festival, showed the trailer and title of the film: “Circus Maximus”.
The teaser consists of a show excerpt from the 32-year-old and scenes from the Italian city of Pompeii and a bush in the shape of a “U”. Fans suspect that this could be a reference to his planned LP UTOPIA.
The film, which Scott and Korine are directing, is said to be an action-packed feature film that was shot entirely in infrared and even recently had an unannounced showing at the Metrograph theater in New York. However, Scott said that the film should still be officially released in cinemas. It is still unclear whether this will also be the case in Germany.
The founder of “Cactus Jack Records” also commented on the long-awaited UTOPIA record during his performance. Originally slated for release on July 28th, UTOPIA was to be performed by Scott at the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. However, after the Egyptian authorities announced that Travis Scott’s concert posed a threat to their culture, it was assumed that the release would be postponed. The ASTROWORLD rapper ended the uncertainty by declaring that both the album and the accompanying film would be released on July 28th.
Scott released UTOPIA’s newest single, “K-POP,” on Friday (July 21). Infusing hip hop with reggaeton and R&B influences, the track brings in genre experts Bad Bunny and The Weeknd. The song was produced by Boi-1da, Illangelo, Jahaan Sweet and BNYX, who are also behind many of Drake’s works.
