Traveling through Austria is free – provided you have the new transport pass as a tattoo | Abroad

Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler introduced this concept at a music festival in Austria. Special tattoo parlors under the name “Aktion geht unter die Haut” (Action that gets under the skin) were introduced here.

Festivalgoers were given the unique opportunity to transform their bodies into a permanent billboard for the Klimaticket. Normally, such a card represents a value of more than 1,000 euros and offers unlimited travel options by train, bus, tram and metro.

The intention is to make people less dependent on their personal vehicles and to increase the frequency of public transport. With this, the country aims to achieve its climate goals, as laid down in the Paris Agreement.

Nevertheless, this initiative has also given rise to some discussion. There are voices that claim that Gewessler is using the younger generations for political purposes. The Minister has skillfully countered these concerns by emphasizing that the action is being carried out with responsibility. Participation is only possible during fasting daytime hours during festivals and requires a minimum age of 18 years.
