Travel documents go astray – snowboarders sweat before the start of the World Cup

Snowboard coach Matevz Pristavec was already shedding beads of sweat before the Freestyle World Cup in Beijing. Because his passport was lost in Europe, the plane threatened to take off without the coach.

The German snowboard team has already passed the first stress test before the Freestyle World Cup in Beijing. The entry documents of the new discipline trainer Matevz Pristavec traveled alone for several days, but then arrived back at the 44-year-old a few hours before the flight to China.

Sorting error sends travel documents flying around the world

After the visa for Pristavec was applied for, the travel documents were originally supposed to be sent back from Frankfurt to his homeland in Slovenia, as German freestyle head coach Michael Dammert reported. A tracking number showed that the papers had also arrived in Ljubljana – but only for a short time.

Apparently due to a sorting error, the documents were then flown to Glasgow, across England and ultimately to Brussels. From there they were sent to Leipzig and then – because there was only a short time until departure – they were taken on to Slovenia via two rideshare companies. “All in all, it was very adventurous and sweaty,” says Dammert. “We are all the more pleased that Matevz is now on site and we can get started.
