Transport Senator Manja Schreiner wants to push ahead with the expansion of the Berlin subway network and also examine a new line to Weißensee.

“One of the possible projects is the U10 from Alexanderplatz to Weißensee, for which we are planning a feasibility study,” said the CDU politician to the “Berliner Zeitung”. “The extension of the U2 in Pankow would also be conceivable, and the further construction of the U9 beyond Osloer Straße into the Pankow area is a serious option.”

The Berlin subway network covers almost 147 kilometers and 175 stations. Extensions are already being planned or checked:

► An economic feasibility study is being considered for an extension of the U7 from Rudow to BER Airport.

► An extension from the Spandau town hall to Heerstraße Nord is also discussed again and again. According to Schreiner, a basic study is currently underway.

► An extension of the U8 from Wittenau to the Märkisches Viertel and the U3 from Krumme Lanke to Mexico Square are also a regular topic.

The first project to be implemented is likely to be this U3 in the south-west. Schreiner told the Berliner Zeitung that the line could go to Mexico Square at the end of 2031.
