Transport bans after two new cases of bird flu in Groningen

A transport ban for poultry is in effect at Gieten, Gasselternijveen and Annen in the municipality of Aa and Hunze, because bird flu has been detected in Wildervank (municipality of Veendam in Groningen).

Bird flu has also been diagnosed in Zuidwolde in Groningen. The zone of the transport ban because of that bird flu has hardly any effect on Drenthe. Only the Hoornseplas is part of the transport ban.

Because of the bird flu in Wildervank, about 15,000 laying hens are culled there, while the bird flu in Zuidwolde involves about 28,000 broilers.

A transport ban applies to all birds and hatching and table eggs from a location with birds. The ban also applies to bird manure, among other things. In addition, there are rules for hunting. For example, it is prohibited to hunt ducks in this area.

Transport bans were already in place in various places in Drenthe. For example, bird flu was diagnosed earlier this week at Nieuw-Weerdinge, where more than 200,000 broilers were culled. There were also transport bans at the border after bird flu was found in Germany.
