Transport ban along German border due to bird flu

In an area between the German border and Emmen there is a transport ban for poultry. This ban follows the detection of bird flu at a company just across the border, in Hebelermeer. It is just across the border between Ter Apel and Zwartemeer.

It concerns a breeding farm with 41,000 animals. There are approximately five million poultry in the surveillance area.

The ten kilometer zone in which the transport ban applies partly falls within the Netherlands. This means that no kept birds may be moved, nor may hatching eggs or fresh bird meat be transported, according to the provisions of the State.

The transport ban has already taken effect on Friday and is indicated with signs.
