Trànsit opens the door to reduce speed on the AP-7 to 100 in ten sections

The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), Ramon Lamiel, He has advocated limiting speed to 110 kilometers per hour on the AP-7 motorway and that, in ten sections that add up to a total length of 70 kilometers, the reductions “be even more notable, up to 100 if appropriate”.

In an interview on Catalunya Ràdio this Tuesday collected by Europa Press, he assured that they will also ask the Government to establish a speed limit of less than 100 kilometers per hour on the AP-7 “when there is very significant congestion.”

He stressed that, although the number of fatalities on this motorway has doubled since the liberalization of tolls, it has decreased by 6.5% on all Catalan roads: “There are about 1,100 accidents with fewer victims now than before the liberalization of tolls. Having said all this, the AP-7 worries and occupies us.”

Regarding the accident rate, he has maintained that 40% of the fatalities had consumed alcohol, drugs or psychotropic drugs, while in the breathalyzer tests carried out in June – almost 100,000 – the number of positives was around 5%. “I repeat, when the victim is fatal, it is when the presence of this type of substance increases markedly,” she warned, stressing that out of all accidents, the main cause is distractions linked to the use of mobile phones.

Along these lines, he explained that in September two test cameras will come into operation on the AP-7 to detect the use of mobile phones while driving.
