Transfermarkt’s Sorare Guide: This is how the NFT-based fantasy sports game works

Maps, Game Weeks and much more.

In August, Transfermarkt and Sorare, the leading NFT-based fantasy sports game, announced a long-term cooperation. Since then, the player profiles of the official Sorare license partners have been linked to the profiles of the Bundesliga and LaLiga professionals in the Transfermarkt database (advertisement). But what exactly is Sorare? How can football fans acquire the player cards in the form of NFTs, how can they participate in the different leagues and when and how are the rewards distributed? Transfermarkt provides information about the basics of Sorare.

What exactly is Sorare?

Sorare is a fantasy sports game, in which managers can collect and exchange digital player cards from more than 25 of the best leagues in the world and place them in different leagues. These player cards are NFTs that you own not just for one season, but forever if you choose.

Each player can be acquired in different rarity levels. While black cards (unique) only exist once per player and season and are therefore rare and valuable, there are 1,000 yellow cards (limited) per season. With Super Rare (blue; 10 cards each) and Rare (red; 100 cards each) there are two more rarity levels in between.

All cards have their own serial number, which can sometimes cause differences in prices. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Limited 7/1000 card is particularly popular because of his shirt number.

How do I purchase my favorite players’ NFTs at Sorare?

At the beginning of each season, new maps are created by the pros active in the licensed leagues and released over time. Managers who are interested can bid on the cards and thus determine the price of the player themselves. They can then exchange cards with each other or buy them from each other for a fixed amount. The third way to get new cards is to do well in Game Weeks.

Game Weeks at Sorare: How I line up my players in the leagues

Two of these Game Weeks are held each week, from Friday to Tuesday and from Tuesday to Friday (starting and ending at 12:00 CET). For this time, managers can field their NFTs in different leagues with different requirements. Points are awarded based on player performance, resulting in a ranking at the end of Game Week. Successful managers can thus win new NFTs and other prizes.

A line-up always consists of five players: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a striker and another field player. The manager designates one of these five players in advance as the captain – he or she receives a 20 percent point bonus on his or her performance.

These leagues are available at Sorare:

Global All Star: All players from all available leagues can be fielded

Under 23: Only players up to the age of 23 can be fielded

Champion Europe: Only players from the top 5 leagues (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France) may field

Challenger Europe: Only players from European leagues that are not in the top 5 leagues are allowed to field (Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands etc.)

Champion America: Only players from the North, Central and South American leagues may field

Champion Asia: Only players from the Asian leagues may field
