For the first time in Transfermarkt history, TM users have chosen the player of the season in the Japanese J1-League: Leandro Damião from champion Kawasaki Frontale received 39.9 percent of the votes and was able to look forward to the coveted trophy.
With 31 goals in 35 league games, the former Brazil international was instrumental in his club’s title win last season. Together with Yokohama’s left winger Daizen Maeda (24; 23 goals each), the 32-year-old was the league’s top scorer (overview).

Maeda moved to Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow on loan in January, who will sign the Japanese for around 1.5 million euros next summer. The national player secured 8 percent of the user votes in the TM election, which gave him third place in the end result – the Brazilian Mateus (27; 13.1 percent) from Nagoya Grampus came in second place in the favor of TM users , the club of former Bundesliga goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak (33).
The Australian, who played a total of 21 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart, secured first place with 44.2 percent of the votes for the best goalkeeper in the league.
