Bremen have grabbed the first new signing for the coming Bundesliga season – and the goalscorer from the 2nd division is even coming on a free transfer.
Werder Bremen will sign Polish international striker Dawid Kownacki from Fortuna Düsseldorf. The reported “Bild” newspaper and the multimedia portal “Deichstube” on Monday in agreement, in the afternoon the club confirmed the change.
We are convinced that he will qualitatively enrich us with his skills in the offensive area.

The 26-year-old attacker has already done the medical check and signed the contract in Bremen. Kownacki has already scored twelve second division goals for Fortuna this season and has therefore also been courted by several other Bundesliga clubs such as Union Berlin, 1899 Hoffenheim and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Kownacki comes on a free transfer
In the end, however, “the personal feel-good factor would also have played a decisive role,” said Werder’s sporting director Clemens Fritz. Kownacki’s contract in Düsseldorf expires at the end of June, so he can move to Bremen free of charge.
At the beginning of 2019, the striker was initially loaned out by the then first division team Fortuna Düsseldorf from Sampdoria Genoa and later signed. In the meantime, Kownacki was also loaned out to Lech Posen after a long injury. Since his return, he had developed into a top performer at Fortuna.
