FC Bayern are plagued by major personnel concerns in the defense center. Now the German record champions should have a national player on their radar.
As transfer journalist Ekrem Konur reports, FC Bayern is monitoring Malick Thiaw’s situation. The former FC Schalke 04 professional has become a regular player at AC Milan.
Thiaw has already played nine competitive games for the traditional club this season and was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in the Champions League against Newcastle United (0-0) and Borussia Dortmund (0-0).
FC Bayern with personnel concerns in defense
The 22-year-old still has a contract with Milan until 2027. The Serie A leaders therefore have no pressure to negotiate a transfer from Thiaw. Konur’s report does not reveal how specific FC Bayern’s interest in the national player is.
Munich only have three experienced central defenders in their squad: Minjae Kim, Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano. The latter currently has to take a break due to a muscle injury in the back left thigh. FC Bayern recently decided not to bring Jérôme Boateng back.
Ex-BVB professional traded at FC Bayern
It cannot be ruled out that the Munich team will add more personnel in the winter at the latest. Most recently, ex-BVB professional Sokratis was discussed by “Sky” as a possible help for the defense center. The Greek is currently without a club.
Until then, FC Bayern will have to make do with the existing staff. After the international break, the third-placed team in the Bundesliga continues away against 1. FSV Mainz 05 (October 21st, 6:30 p.m.). Upamecano will most likely be missing from Munich. According to “Bild”, the Frenchman could be out for around three to four weeks.
