‘Transfer point’ should help vulnerable young people make choices

Five municipalities in North and Central Drenthe are joining forces to reduce early school leaving and guide young people in vulnerable positions. Coaches try to help young people without a diploma take the right next step.

Aa en Hunze, Assen, Midden-Drenthe, Noordenveld and Tynaarlo work together in the so-called ‘Doorstroompunt’. Today they signed the agreement containing agreements about the division of tasks and finances. The municipalities thus support young people without a pre-university education (VWO), HAVO or MBO diploma (level 2).

The Doorstroompunt receives money from the government to give them the right boost for the coming years. The coaches help you make choices about school, work and possibly healthcare.

The Doorstroompunt used to be called ‘RMC’. Young people find the old name unclear, says the municipality of Assen, because when they think of ‘RMC’ they think of a healthcare institution or hospital. According to the young people, the new name is ‘short, powerful, accessible and it indicates that it is one central point where we can go’.
