Transfer Mees de Wit from PEC Zwolle to AZ finally completed: ‘This feels very good’ | Sport

The transition from PEC player Mees de Wit to AZ has been definitively completed. The last signatures for the transition were placed on Tuesday evening. The 24-year-old left back signs for five years. “This is a well-deserved transfer”, says technical manager Mike Willems.

De Wit came over on a free transfer from Sporting Portugal last summer, where he played in the second team. De Wit quickly found himself in the starting line-up in Zwolle. In 23 league games, the creative winger scored four goals.

Enforcement

,,This feels very good”, a happy Mees de Wit reacts to the transfer. ,,I was waiting for it and this week it came around. AZ is a nice club with nice facilities. They regularly play in the top-4 and I also like the way they play. I can see myself playing here. I am very proud that I have achieved this,” he explains on the AZ website.

This is a good step for both the club and player

Mike Willems, Technical manager PEC Zwolle

The player states that he is grateful to PEC Zwolle for the opportunity he was given. ,,Here I made my debut in the Eredivisie and I was able to develop well in a year. I see the switch to AZ as a reward for that, but let it be clear that I and my teammates have only one goal in the coming weeks; enforcement. I want and will end my time in Zwolle on a positive note, I trust that.”

Unfortunately

Technical manager Mike Willems thinks it is a shame that PEC Zwolle loses De Wit after only one year. ,,It’s just a good step for both the club and the player. Mees has asserted himself with us in the Eredivisie. He has not yet reached his ceiling and this is a well-deserved transfer to one of the best performing clubs in the Netherlands in recent years.”

Two million euros

PEC Zwolle will receive about two million euros for the player, who still had a contract for one year with an option for another year.

Mees came out of the scouting reports very positively

Max Huiberts, AZ

,,Of course we will not let him go just like that, the financial compensation that will be paid for this transfer, in our view, is in line with the value he currently represents. This transition shows once again that we as PEC Zwolle offer a platform on which talented players can further develop and show themselves,” explains Willems.

Huiberts

Zwollenaar Max Huiberts, Director of Football Affairs at AZ, is happy with the arrival of De Wit. ,,Mees came out very positively from the scouting reports. That is how we ended up with him.”

Besides AZ, other clubs were also interested in Mees de Wit. Huiberts: ,,During the period of signing Mees, we noticed that a number of clubs also reported to his management. From day one, he has made it very clear that he chooses AZ. That this is the step he wants to take.”
