The transfer of storm talent Mathys Tel to FC Bayern Munich is officially perfect. As the German record champion announced, the 17-year-old, highly talented attacker has signed a contract until 2027.
The Frenchman joins from French first division club Stade Rennes and costs a fixed transfer fee of 20 million euros, which can increase up to 28.5 million euros.
“Mathys Tel is one of the greatest talents in Europe, a very fast, technically strong and versatile striker,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic about the new signing: “We’ve been watching him for a long time and have now been able to convince him of his next important steps in Munich to sit with us.”
Bayern have great expectations of the teenager, who is regarded as Europe’s greatest striker. Tel is understandably not a “one-to-one replacement” for Robert Lewandowski, said coach Julian Nagelsmann, of course he has “the vision that one day he will score 40 goals. But if he scores ten goals this season, we would be very happy happy.”
Fifth newcomer has little first division experience
Tel has little first division experience: For Rennes he only made seven brief appearances over 49 minutes in Ligue 1. But he already proved his qualities as a goalscorer in the junior national teams: In the U18s he scored five times in six games, in the U17s, which he captained to the European Championship title in May, he also scored five in nine games Gates.
Tel is the fifth newcomer after Sadio Mane (32m plus up to 9m euros), Matthijs de Ligt (67+10), Ryan Gravenberch (18.5+5.5+stake on resale) and Noussair Mazraoui (free transfer) – and he fits into the concept: “We are looking for young players who we can develop into world-class players and he could be one of those players,” said Nagelsmann.
Another teenager from Barcelona approaching
According to media reports, after the Tel commitment, FC Bayern also has Adam Aznou (16) on the line. The 16-year-old defender comes from the youth team of FC Barcelona and is to receive a three-year contract with an option for a professional contract.
