The fact that Borussia Dortmund needs to be strengthened on the defensive didn’t just become clear with the clap at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening (2: 4). So does BVB improve its defense in winter? Right-back Cody Drameh is considered a prime candidate for a signing.
In order to get the defense problems under control, Borussia Dortmund could hit the transfer market in the coming change window and sign a new right defensive specialist. As the English “Daily Mail” found out, those responsible for BVB are interested in Cody Callum Pierre Drameh from Premier League club Leeds United.
According to the report, Dortmund are not alone in courting the young Englishman. Accordingly, the nouveau riche Newcastle United, which is now supported with sheikh money from the Middle East, has also thrown its hat in the ring. Although Drameh has “only” made seven appearances for the Leeds first team, the 20-year-old, who trained at Fulham FC, is regarded as a great talent.
The reason: last season he was loaned to Cardiff City and convinced there in all respects. He was named Best Young Player and Star of the Season in general by the Welsh second division side. The right-back made 22 appearances for Cardiff, almost always playing the full distance and scoring a total of three goals during his engagement.
Will Draheh fix the weak point at BVB?
So it’s hardly surprising that the 1.75 meter tall defender, who was also used in England’s U21s, arouses national and international interest.
Borussia Dortmund should have good chances with Drameh. The Black and Yellows have proven in the recent past with Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, among others, that they have a knack for leading up-and-coming English players to glory.
At BVB, Drameh could solve the acute problems on the right side of defense if he acclimatizes quickly. Right-back Thomas Meunier is currently suffering from a broken cheekbone and has rarely been stable in his performances, and young Mateu Morey is also unavailable due to recurring knee problems. Most recently, central defender Niklas Süle had to help out on the right.
How much transfer Drameh would cost BVB is not mentioned in the “Daily Mail” report. However, the youngster’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. Its market value is estimated at around three million euros.
