Transavia cancels flights again: ‘It will continue to fester now’

The problems at Transavia continue. The airline will cancel a number of flights to and from Eindhoven Airport on Friday and Saturday. According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, it would concern fourteen flights.

“I’m not going to confirm numbers, but we are indeed still intervening,” spokesperson Leon Bogaard said on Thursday afternoon. “You’re not far off in terms of numbers. We try to carry out this operation as well as possible. Sometimes you depend on whether or not we can get a leased aircraft. That kind of thing. The moment I name a few and we’re a day further and we can still carry out a flight – or not – I’m stuck with those numbers.”

“We will have to look every time: can we carry out the flight yes or no.”

Two to three thousand passengers would be affected by Friday and Saturday’s cancellations, it can be read in the ED. Travelers from or to Copenhagen, Seville, Barcelona, Faro, Athens, Lisbon and Alicante would be particularly affected.

“In the coming period we will have to look every time: can we carry out the flight yes or no”, Leon explains. “There will be some flights here and there. It just keeps on festering for a while now.”

“We want to help customers as best we can and do everything we can to work on a solution.”

Transavia has been struggling with what the spokesman calls ‘fleet challenges’ since this month. That is why flights were also canceled on Wednesday and Thursday. “Some planes are broken and waiting for new parts. Three other planes remain on the ground because the paperwork is not yet in order.” Transavia leases those planes from Blue Air, a Romanian airline that recently went bankrupt. Delays in the deal caused paperwork problems.

Due to the shortage of aircraft, Transavia decided to cancel 5 percent of flights in April and May. It is not known how long the problems will last. This depends, among other things, on when the new parts are delivered. “We want to help customers as best we can and do everything we can to work on a solution.”

Travelers are compensated through European rules. According to those rules, travelers can get their ticket costs back if a replacement flight is not possible.
