Training performance insufficient
Jens Petter Hauge is one of five players on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt this season. The 22-year-old was drawn to the KAA Gent in Belgium in mid-August, where he was seeded straight away, but is now struggling for playing times. The reason for this is his performance in training, as coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck made clear at the press conference before the league duel with Eupen on Sunday (4 p.m.).
“You can force something because of his past and his name, and he got minutes in the beginning too, but you have to show it in training too. Jens Petter has yet to flip the switch and show what he’s capable of,” said Vanhaezebrouck, announcing talks with Hauge. The striker had clocked up 314 minutes in eight consecutive competitive games after arriving before remaining unused in the past three games. On the 9th match day against Genk it wasn’t even enough for a squad nomination.
In the course of the loan, Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche spoke of a right step for Hauge. “We have had very good experiences in recent years with lending players with potential to Belgium. Jens Petter has great facilities, but at his age he needs regular competition practice,” explained the 42-year-old. In the recent past, current SBU regulars Daichi Kamada (26) and Tuta (23) spent a year in the neighboring country.
Vanhaezebrouck, meanwhile, said of Hauge: “He needs some time to get used to a different way of playing football. It’s a different league for him here in Belgium anyway.” The Norwegian international was brought on as a substitute after Tarik Tissoudalis (29) ruptured his cruciate ligament and replaced the Moroccan as the most valuable professional in the squad. Vanhaezebrouck revealed that the SGE loan was not the first choice of the Belgians. Gent originally looked for another profile, but didn’t find anyone directly and therefore changed course. Now the coach hopes that Hauge “shows more in training so that you can get him faster”.
