Trainer Ultee wants to stay with Fortuna Sittard: ‘Anyway’ | 1Limburg

Relegation battle
Fortuna Sittard still has eight exciting games in the fight against relegation. Eight games in which Fortuna must secure the premier league. Ultee’s squad is in 16th place with 22 points, a spot that would mean play-offs at the moment. The trainer thinks that 34 points are probably not needed for enforcement this year. “If I start counting, I think it would be just a little lower, but I mainly look at the schedule we still have and whether we can get enough points. But that is difficult to calculate, it is a bit of speculation.”

Program
April seems to be an important month for Fortuna with home games against Heracles Almelo, Sparta Rotterdam and Go Ahead Eagles. Ultee doesn’t want to look too far ahead: “We don’t talk about the program, but we do talk about the fact that there are still plenty of opportunities. But we have to keep the focus on the game against Heracles,” says the coach.

Busy
Ultee notices that Fortuna is busy. “The matches are very different from last year. Then we could count down until we were safe and we were even allowed to dream about possible participation in the play-offs for European football. That is different now. There is just a lot of pressure, but that is with more teams in the Eredivisie.”

Realistic
Ultee still has a contract with Fortuna until 2023 and wants to stay, even in the event of a relegation. “If you ask me, I’ll say anyway.” Although Ultee is also realistic: “It is not just up to me. I also know that football is not that simple and that the club management has to make a choice.” The trainer notices that Fortuna is growing. “But it does not happen automatically, with trial and error. For example, we have problems with the training field, but at the same time you feel the steps forward with a beautifully renovated dressing room and a better main field.”
