Robert Molenaar has been fired as trainer of NAC Breda. The 53-year-old Zaandammer had only been working in North Brabant since the start of the season. A day after Christmas he has to pack his bags at the first divisionist.
The reason for the decision to interrupt the contract is that within the organization of NAC there is insufficient trust in the trainer-coach,” writes NAC on the website. “As a result of the game shown and the results delivered in the first half of the season, too little support for Molenaar as a successful technical manager in the first team during the second half of the season,” said the club, which wants to enforce participation in the play-offs in the second half of the season.
NAC Breda is currently fourteenth in the first division. In 18 games, the team played 21 points under Molenaar. Plays next Friday FC Volendam a practice match against NAC Breda. Assistant coach Ton Lokhoff is currently sitting on the bench at De Dijk.
As a football player, Molenaar played in the youth academy of AZ and made his breakthrough in 1992 at FC Volendam. After his active football career, he also started at The New Orange as head coach in 2015. After two years the adventure ended, after which he settled at NAC Breda via Roda JC and Almere City last summer.
