Trainer quake? Sebastian Hoeneß traded at FC Bayern

Because Thomas Tuchel’s coaching chair is shaking tremendously after three competitive defeats in a row, numerous successor candidates are being traded at FC Bayern. Successful coach Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart is said to play a role in the mind games of those responsible.

At least that’s what “Bild” reports and writes that in the course of the recent discussions, Hoeneß’ name came up on Säbener Strasse.

However, the 41-year-old nephew of club patron Uli Hoeneß would not be available immediately. Sebastian Hoeneß’ contract with VfB Stuttgart runs until 2025. He would not be available until summer at the earliest and would probably also cost a transfer fee.

It is hardly surprising that FC Bayern is putting out feelers for the newcomer to the coaching scene. The Munich native led VfB Stuttgart from the relegation zone into the Champions League ranks.

The Swabians currently occupy an outstanding third place in the Bundesliga table – just behind FC Bayern, ahead of ambitious teams like Borussia Dortmund or RB Leipzig.

From VfB Stuttgart back to FC Bayern?

Hoeneß also has a past at FC Bayern. Between 2017 and 2020 he worked as a coach in the youth sector of the German record champions. Then followed two years as head coach of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In April 2023 he joined VfB Stuttgart.

There they were recently still confident about the trainer’s whereabouts. “We are in a very intensive exchange and I am very confident that he will continue to work for VfB in the next few years,” emphasized VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle on “Sport1”.

The repeated interest from other clubs speaks in favor of Hoeneß, “because he is simply doing a fantastic job with his coaching team,” said Wehrle.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also commented favorably on Hoeneß in autumn 2023. “We’re watching his development. We’ll see what the future brings: Why not at some point! In the long term, you can never rule out something like that,” he said, referring to a possible return of the VfB coach to Munich.
