Trainer Mike Snoei begs for ‘figurehead’ Glynor Plet: “Regrets stopping too early”

Glynor Plet is keeping the mood in Velsen-Zuid quite busy. The captain of Telstar has again received a formal termination of his contract. The 36-year-old striker could therefore just be working on his last weeks. “I still like playing football. I still feel good and fit, but you think about other things,” said Plet.

Just like last year, Plet’s contract was formally terminated. His expiring contract will not be renewed for the time being, which means that the end of the marriage is lurking. “You get a year older and you also think about other things,” says Plet. For example, the footballer has three children at home.

“We should not decide whether he is going to stop. These guys have to indicate that themselves.”

Trainer Mike Snoei also hopes to be able to use Plet’s services next season. He compares the situation with that of club icon Frank Korpershoek. “He is a great captain. My support and rock in this group. We should not decide whether he is going to stop. These guys have to indicate that themselves. Stopping a year early, you sometimes regret that.”

Plet will continue to talk to the club about his future in the coming weeks. Plet features less in Snoei’s plans this season. He is also getting older and sometimes skips a game. “I’ve reached a certain age now that it’s nice to help other boys too,” says Plet, who has become something of a father figure. “With my experience I can give a lot of advice and help where needed.”

“I like being busy with the ball. So I don’t think I’m going to stop”

If the roads of Telstar and Plet separate after this season, the striker will not disappear from the football fields for good. “I still really like the game. Maybe it will be a level later or I will play football on the squares. I like being busy with the ball. So I don’t think I will stop.”
