Trainer Thomas Letsch said he was angry and disappointed after Vitesse’s defeat against PSV (0-5). “That seems logical to me,” he said. “How can we defend so badly. I don’t understand.”
Vitesse suffered its fourth loss in a row. Three in the competition and last Wednesday against Ajax (5-0) in the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup. The goal figures of the last four matches of the club from Arnhem are telling (1-16). “We train all year to win games,” Letsch said. “Then such a series is very painful.”
Vitesse seemed to be lacking one player in midfield against PSV. That was perhaps also because the club from Arnhem continued to stick to a playing style with five defenders until halftime. “But my main concern is how easily we concede three goals in the first half,” Letsch said.
“I indicated at halftime that we are not going to win this game anymore,” Letsch said. “But I did want to see men on the field with us. Still, in my view, we give away two goals easily. My players have Sunday off. Monday we have to see how we are going to change this. We have to ‘reset ourselves.’ Because on Thursday another duel with Rapid Wien in the Conference League awaits.”
