What’s going on with FC Bayern? Many football observers are asking themselves this question after the Munich team only managed one meager victory in their last five competitive games. Iconic trainer Christoph Daum criticizes the communication at the German record champions.
“A coach also has the task of standing up in front of the team when things aren’t going well,” Daum complained on “Sky”: “You can certainly speak differently internally than in public. We keep saying that you have to be there appear in one voice, but at Bayer Munich you now often have the feeling that you have any number of voices from different areas.”
Daum sees “no unity at all” here. “For me it has the impression of a patchwork family,” said the 70-year-old.
FC Bayern in crisis
FC Bayern only played 2:2 (1:1) at SC Freiburg last Friday. Since Bayer Leverkusen won the derby against 1. FC Köln 2-0 (1-0) on Sunday, Munich is already ten points behind the Bundesliga leaders.
The second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Lazio will take place on Tuesday. After the 0-1 result in the first meeting, there is a risk of an early exit in the premier class.
FC Bayern needs “top performance” against Lazio
The ups and downs have accompanied the German record champions for a “very long time,” said Tuchel at the press conference in Freiburg on Friday evening. “That’s why it’s not out of the question that we can deliver a top performance over 90 minutes on Tuesday. We’ll need one,” said the 50-year-old.
If this plan goes wrong, FC Bayern will finally face their first titleless season since 2011/12. The Munich team recently agreed with Tuchel to end their collaboration early in the summer. The original contract ran until 2025.
