Anthony Correia from Velserbroek stops at Katwijk after four seasons. The trainer hopes to work full time as an (assistant) trainer in professional football next season. “I’m going for the highest possible result. I don’t know yet where I’ll end up and I’ll let it happen to me,” said Correia.
It was announced on Monday that the trainer will stop at second divisionist Katwijk after four seasons. “Last year I completed the ‘professional football coach’ course. Katwijk is the most beautiful club in the amateur field, but to make your dreams come true you sometimes have to take the plunge,” says Correia.
Base steady
As a football player, Correia was a regular. He played no fewer than fifteen seasons for Telstar. That was also his only club during his professional career.
As a trainer he knew several clubs. In 2014 he started as a trainer at VVH Velserbroek. Via IJmuiden and ODIN ’59 he is now the trainer of Katwijk. Since 2017, he has combined being head coach with the position of assistant coach at Telstar.
Many Telstar fans see Correia as a dream candidate to become Telstar’s trainer. “Nice to hear, but that is not the case at all. I am the loyal assistant of current trainer Mike Snoei and I do not want to start sawing his chair legs. I look further than just Telstar, because that would be naive. Of course It is a nice club.”
The North Hollander also indicates that he will look for a club in the Netherlands. Correia has two young sons and now sees a move abroad as a bit too early.
