Trainer Andries Jonker gives Telstar the number one: “In terms of ranking”

Telstar will visit Roda JC tomorrow evening, the last game of the season. The White Lions are having a bad season and are in penultimate place in the first division. “You want to perform above your budget and that has not been successful. In terms of ranking, I give a one”, Jonker is clear.

“I give my players and the staff a nine for perseverance, work and keep their heads up,” continues Jonker. Defender Anwar Bensabouh can agree with that. “If we look at the place in the ranking, that is not enough. If you look at the way we train daily, the level is high,” said Bensabouh.

“I would rather have played more games”

First year as a White Lion

Bensabouh is in his first season with Telstar. He came over from Almere City FC last summer. “It started well. I scored my first goal for Telstar, but then I suffered a serious injury. That took me a few months. I would have preferred to play more matches,” says Bensabouh. This season he plays as a central defender, but he admits that he feels more comfortable in midfield.

For Telstar, there is virtually nothing at stake against the Limburgers. Depending on the results on the other fields, the team can climb a few more places in the ranking. Yet Andries Jonker thinks it is an important match for his men. “At these kinds of matches there are a lot of scouts in the stands. If you have ambitions, you have to show yourself now,” said Jonker.
