A car and a train collided at the railway crossing at Broekhuizen near Meppel. The driver was injured and emergency services have started, the police reported.
It is not yet clear how the accident could happen. Photos show that the train hit the rear of the car.
Train traffic between Meppel and Hoogeveen is now starting again, after a few hours of silence.
