A car and a train collided at the railway crossing at Broekhuizen near Meppel. The driver was injured and emergency services have started, the police reported.
It is not yet clear how the accident could happen. Photos show that the train hit the rear of the car.
Train traffic between Meppel and Hoogeveen has come to a complete standstill in both directions and Prorail expects that the trains will not run until at least 3 p.m. A train went to the scene of the accident to tow the NS train away.
