Train strikes during the Formula 1 weekend are not excluded, according to VVMC trade union chairman Rob de Groot. Whether there will be a strike on the weekend when twelve trains an hour arrive in the seaside resort is still ‘a subject of discussion’, De Groot said on NH Radio.
“I cannot make any statements about whether Formula 1 is part of our action model,” said union chairman Rob de Groot. “Then you also give the NS insight into what is possibly meant by the national campaigns.”

Actions during the Formula 1 weekend are not excluded: “It could be a consequence. We do not know whether it (the strike, ed.) will take place during that period. We already have three actions for that. The question is; Are we going to continue with it right away, or do we take it over the weekend. That is still a subject of discussion.”
Trade unions FNV, VVMC and CNV made yesterday more detail known about the announced strike of NS staff. Rail company employees are dissatisfied with the failed collective labor agreement negotiations and will stop working in the north of the Netherlands on 24 August and in the west on 26 August. The northwest and central Netherlands will follow on 29 and 30 August respectively. Whether it will remain that way is still unclear.
