Mohammed lives in Winschoten and works in Groningen. Around half past two in the afternoon he gets on the train in Winschoten. He walks unsuspectingly down the aisle when he suddenly feels a sharp pain in the back of his head. “He hit me on the head with the sharp edge of a claw hammer!”

‘A serious incident’

The culprit quickly leaves and the train begins to move. In the moving train, two fellow passengers take care of Mohammed. An Arriva spokesman confirms that there has been a “serious incident” on the train. “The train has been stopped at the station in Scheemda.”

Police cars and an ambulance are waiting there, says Mohammed. He will be checked and can immediately report this to the police. According to a report from his GP, he escaped with a small wound on the right side of his head. “I don’t know how, but I was lucky. He wanted to kill me.” A police spokesman confirms the report. “The investigation into this case is still ongoing.”

From Palestine to Winschoten

Mohammed lives with his brother in Winschoten. The boys fled Palestine six years ago. In Groningen they deliver meals at Thuisbezorgd. “We are trying to help our family with this. They are having a hard time.”

According to Mohammed, the perpetrator got into a fight with his brother some time ago. “That’s why he grabbed me.” He is terrified of the abuse. “I am very stressed about this. I’m terrified of meeting him again. I’m afraid he’ll kill me.”
