Train collides with a trailer on a level crossing in Deerlijk: towing in progress

During a manoeuvre, the truck got stuck on the track with its rear end. That happened near the station building of Deerlijk. There were about 50 passengers on the train. One person was slightly injured, according to police. It concerns a passenger who was on the train.

All train passengers were taken care of at metal processing company Casier, after which they continued their journey with replacement buses.

Hindrance

The collision caused damage to the train and to an overhead line pole. Infrabel, the fire brigade and the police are on site. The towing is currently underway. After that, the train must be removed with an auxiliary train. The disruption to rail traffic between Kortrijk and Oudenaarde will continue for some time.

What should you do if you get stuck?

The rail network manager also reminds you what to do in the event of an incident at a level crossing.

First you get yourself to safety. You then notify the emergency services to be able to stop train traffic. You pass on the information from the sticker that sticks to the post of the level crossing. This procedure was not followed in the accident, as a result of which the train could no longer avoid a collision.
