Tragic accident Havelte continues on the football field: VV Dwingeloo cancels matches

Football association Dwingeloo has canceled matches on Easter Monday, including the first team’s match against Ruinen. This was decided after it became known that a 21-year-old man, who was a member of Dwingeloo, was one of the victims in the tragic accident that took place in Havelte in the night from Saturday to Sunday. He died on the spot.

In addition to the 21-year-old man from the municipality of Westerveld, a 16-year-old girl from the municipality of De Wolden also died. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man from Westerveld, was seriously injured, as was an 18-year-old passenger from the same municipality. Another 16-year-old girl was injured. “Due to the impact this entails for the association and the Dwingeloo community, we as the board have decided not to let the game against Ruinen take place. The competitions of the other senior teams have also been cancelled,” the association said via social media. .

According to Dwingeloo chairman Charles Amkreutz, the 21-year-old was registered with the Dwingelders as a non-playing member. “Friends of his play football in our third team and when it became clear yesterday morning what had happened, I saw the heads of all those boys go down. That was still in the warm-up for the game against Steenwijker Boys 4 and we decided not to let that game play fifteen minutes before kick-off.”

The chairman clearly notices that the accident leaves traces in Dwingeloo. “We therefore did not think it was appropriate to play the derby against Ruinen today,” he continues. The possibility was also discussed to make the clubhouse of the Dwingelders available for gatherings, so that friends and acquaintances of those involved in the accident can offer each other comfort, but that turned out not to be necessary. “We heard that this is already happening in other places,” said Amkreutz. “But if that need still arises, we are always open to it.”
