Traffic on A9 comes to a standstill for hours due to broken bridge at Schiphol

Motorists have been in a traffic jam on the A9 since 2 p.m. this afternoon. This was due to a broken bridge at Schiphol. The bridge was not repaired until around 5.30pm.

“We’ve been stuck for an hour and it could take a few more hours,” said a motorist around 3 p.m. Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information wrote on Twitter that technicians are trying to solve the problem.

The bridge section has now fallen down, but the barriers remain closed. “A test run will follow shortly. We will see whether the system resets,” wrote Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information.

Then it turned out that the problems with the barriers still had not been solved. The police eventually allowed motorists to turn around near Amstelveen.

The broken bridge caused some holidaymakers to miss or threaten to miss their flight from Schiphol. “Who can we declare our holiday to?”, one of them asked wonder.

About 3.5 hours after the start of the malfunction, the malfunction was completely resolved. Detours have been withdrawn in both directions and traffic has resumed.
