Traffic light politician: Putin’s ‘crude blackmail attempt’ on Nord Stream 2

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Politicians of the traffic light coalition see statements by the Russian President Wladimir Putinto put the Nord Stream 2 pipeline into operation, a “clumsy attempt at blackmail”. Accordingly, FDP faction deputy Lukas Khler said on Wednesday. He told the German Press Agency: “The issue of Nord Stream 2 is settled for a good reason – and that reason is in the Kremlin. There is nothing more to say about Putin’s recent show.”

Nina Scheer, energy policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, said: “The question does not arise insofar as there are no technical reasons against the use of Nord Stream 1 from a European perspective with the return of the turbine.” Cooler said, “Given the real challenges we face, we’re not going to engage in such a crude attempt at blackmail.”

Kremlin chief Putin had warned Europe against a further reduction in Russian gas supplies. If Russia does not get back a turbine for the Nord Stream 1 Baltic Sea pipeline that was repaired in Canada, the daily throughput capacity of the pipeline could fall again significantly at the end of July, Putin said on Wednesday night, according to the Russian state news agency Tass. “We still have a finished route – that’s Nord Stream 2. We can put it into operation,” Putin added.

In recent weeks, the federal government has always pointed out that Nord Stream 2 cannot be commissioned because the pipeline has not been approved. On February 22, before Russia invaded Ukraine, the federal government put the controversial pipeline on hold. A certification process has been stopped./hoe/DP/ngu
