Traffic institute Vias notices a strong increase in the number of cycling fatalities so far: “unprecedented amounts invested in safe infrastructure”

The number of fatalities on Belgian roads during the first nine months of this year increased by more than 16 percent compared to the same period last year, to 326. More than a quarter of them were pedestrians or cyclists. The number of cycling deaths even rose from 31 to 49. That is the highest number in the past 10 years, according to the Road Safety Barometer of the Vias traffic institute, based on figures from the federal police, on Wednesday.
