Traffic data are to be exchanged in the EU

BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) – In order to make traffic safer and more efficient, traffic data is to be exchanged on a larger scale in the EU, for example between traffic apps. For example, information about, for example, speed limits or construction sites should be able to be shared by the applications. Representatives of the European Parliament and the EU countries agreed on this on Thursday in Brussels.

Data on one-way streets in cities, traffic weight, length, width or height restrictions, and traffic conditions in regulated zones will also be included in a national database, which would then be shared by EU countries, businesses and consumers, it said Parliament with.

The countries said the introduction of intelligent transport systems should be pushed ahead step by step. According to Parliament, the deadline for the digital delivery of the new information is between the end of 2025 and the end of 2028, depending on the type of data. The EU states and Parliament have yet to confirm the new rules. This is considered a formality./red/DP/jha
