Traffic controllers deployed against illegal parkers at Blauwe Meer

Traffic controllers will be deployed this summer at the Blauwe Meer recreational lake in Hoogersmilde to reduce the number of illegal parkers.

The supervisors are there on the days when the most crowds are expected. “The intention is that people park in the spaces, and not all over the site. This also allows us to park more cars,” explains a spokesperson for the municipality of Westerveld.

Last year, the Blauwe Meer grew into such a popular swimming spot that the influx led to parking problems. Visitors parked their cars in large numbers on both sides of the access road, blocking the way for emergency services and farmers. The municipality decided to close the access road.

Following this, a towing arrangement was introduced to the access road. Parking is allowed on one side of the road, but not on both sides. Some of the motorists ignored this order in order to take a cooling dip in the swimming pool as quickly as possible.

There is a good chance that the traffic controllers will be allowed to work this weekend. Temperatures seem to rise to well above 20 degrees.
