This weekend it will be very busy in the Haarlem and Haarlemmermeer region. The Formula 1 circus erupts in full force at Circuit Zandvoort and the Mysteryland festival takes place in Spaarnwoude. This has major consequences for traffic in the region, because a number of roads and railway crossings will be closed and public transport in the region will also be overhauled. NH lists all measures below.
By train to Zandvoort
The Dutch Railways is deploying a lot of extra trains to properly transport the many thousands of visitors to the Formula 1 weekend in Zandvoort on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the coastal town. Between 08:00 in the morning and 23:00 in the evening, twelve trains per hour run between Amsterdam and Zandvoort.
These trains must all be able to travel back and forth smoothly, which is why it has been decided to keep the level crossings on this route closed from August 24 at 8 p.m. to August 28 at 5 a.m. Traffic that has to cross the closed transitions will be diverted on site. The Dutch Railways and rail manager ProRail have extra fault teams on hand should there be a problem on the track.
Bicycle and bus
The cycling routes to the circuit are clearly marked with yellow traffic signs. The routes lead directly to the special parking areas for bicycles, close to the circuit. To prevent visitors from having to search for their bicycle for a long time, Dutch Grand Prix sells tickets that are linked to a bicycle parking space. Incorrectly parked bicycles can be removed by the municipality.
You can also take the bus to the circuit. Bus operator Connexxion will deploy extra buses on lines 356 and 300 from Amsterdam Bijlmer, which will drive directly to the main entrance of the circuit via Haarlem Station. Bus 81 runs three times an hour from Haarlem to Zandvoort and back.
Closed roads Zandvoort
In addition to all adjustments to the railway, bus lines and bicycle routes, the village has been hermetically closed to cars since today. Only people with a special pass can still enter the village by car. The closed roads:
- The N200 Overveen – Zandvoort (Zeeweg) will be closed from Thursday 8 p.m. to Monday morning 28 August 5 a.m.
- The N201 Heemstede – Zandvoort (Zandvoortselaan) will be closed from 05:00 on Thursday 24 August to 05:00 on Monday 28 August.
The Mysteryland festival attracts more than 130,000 people over three days. It will be held from 25 to 27 August in the Haarlemmermeerse Bos and the recreation area De Groene Weelde. A lot of measures have also been taken for all these visitors to ensure that everyone arrives safely at their destination.
For example, quite a few roads and cycle paths are (temporarily) closed, so that festival-goers cannot park or be dropped off or picked up in residential areas around Mysteryland. This will also prevent traffic in the direction of Vijfhuizen. Look at here’s the full list of deposits.
Residents of these neighborhoods are of course allowed through by the traffic controllers.
Public transport to Mysteryland
For visitors to the festival, a shuttle bus runs from Hoofddorp station to Expo Haarlemmermeer. From there, festival-goers still have to walk a bit to the entrance of the festival site.
Visitors who come with the R-line buses also get off at the Expo. The bus does not stop at the Vijfhuizen stop on Saturdays and Sundays to prevent festival-goers from walking through the Stellinghof district to the festival. This stop is also not visited on the way back.
