The FNV union starts with energy consultation hours to inform people about the energy allowance and to help them apply for that allowance. The first consultation hours are Thursday in the trade union house of the FNV in Groningen.
The FNV notes that there is a lot of uncertainty about who is entitled to an energy surcharge. According to the union, thousands of people are at risk of missing out on this contribution from the government and unnecessarily getting into financial difficulties.
“Workers with a low income, the elderly with only AOW or a small pension, or people with, for example, a disability benefit do not automatically receive the allowance,” explains Maureen van der Pligt, director of FNV Uitkeringsrechtigden. “They have to apply for it themselves, but often don’t even know that they are entitled to it.”
