Trade union agrees to closure of QSIL Winschoten glass factory. Employees receive considerably more money

Employees of glass manufacturer QSIL in Winschoten will receive a significantly higher severance payment. The company closes on August 1.

It is not without reason that the 122 employees of QSIL in Winschoten have campaigned for a better social plan. At the end of last year it was announced that the glass manufacturer would stop making it. Earlier this month they stopped work for two days.

Trade union FNV and company management have now reached an agreement. In this new social plan, the severance payment will increase by 50 percent. The members of the association will make a final decision on this agreement on Friday afternoon.

Financial perspective despite factory closure

FNV director Janwillem Compaijen is positive. “The severance payment will be no less than 50 percent higher. Employees will receive at least four monthly wages, the continued work bonus will remain 10,000 euros and wages for this and last year will not increase by 5 percent but by 12 percent.”

Compaijen calls the closure of the factory a decision with negative financial consequences for the employees. “This result gives them a new perspective for the future, partly because there is an extra budget for guidance to a new job.”
