The German Retail Association (HDE) announced its expectations for the upcoming Easter business on Monday. According to this, the industry organization “expects sales of 2.2 billion euros in retail in Germany”. The HDE based this estimate on a corresponding survey of more than 1,000 consumers.
The association expressly emphasized the importance of the upcoming holidays: Easter is “after Christmas the second largest holiday-related occasion for consumption,” according to a statement. Especially in view of the continuing difficult general conditions, the industry is therefore hoping for “good Easter business and a positive impulse for consumer sentiment,” explained HDE Managing Director Stefan Genth in a statement.
Food retailers in particular can look forward to additional income with special Easter products. “This certainly shows the continued popularity of Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies,” explained the HDE. According to the current survey, flowers, toys and decorative items are also popular.
