Tractors are moving through the streets in Drimmelen again, but no farmers’ protest

Tractors by Night is back. Due to the corona crisis, the event could not take place for two years, but next Friday more than forty farmers will travel through all the villages in the municipality of Drimmelen with their illuminated tractors to wish everyone a happy New Year. Participants are already busy decorating their tractors.

So no farmers’ protest, but a festive procession to wish everyone in the municipality of Drimmelen the best for 2023. “Just for fun”, emphasizes co-organizer Tim Buijs.

Participants are even expressly forbidden to show political expressions on Friday. “We don’t want to be associated with that at all.”

It is a tradition that has been going on for fifteen years. Every first Friday night of the new year. Usually watched by thousands of roadside residents in the past.

The anti-corona measures have thrown a spanner in the works over the past two years. “It really tickled for two years, but now we can finally go again.” In the yard of the farm in Wagenberg, three decorated tractors are already ready for Friday evening.

Jan Buijs’ green tractor is also decorated with festive lighting. “All kinds of light hoses in different colors. But I’m not done yet. More lights are coming up and I’m putting in two deer.”

The illuminated tractor parade is also a lure for the residents. “We’re trying to get people out for a great New Year’s greeting to each other.”

There is a bit of competition, because there will be a prize for the three most beautifully decorated tractors on Friday. The procession departs from Terheijden at half past five on Friday afternoon and goes through all the church villages, after which there is a small ‘after party’ in Wagenberg.
