Tractor accident claims 15 lives in India | Abroad

A tragic accident has occurred in northern India that has killed at least 15 people and seriously injured more than 12 others. A farm tractor, loaded with 40 people in a trailer, overturned and crashed into a nearby pond. Local authorities confirmed that seven of the fatalities were children.

The persons in the trailer were on their way to a ritual bath in the Ganges River when the tragic accident occurred. According to police, the tractor was traveling at a significant speed, after which the driver lost control.

Regardless of the ban

The incident is reminiscent of a similar accident in October 2022, in which 26 people were killed. Although it is illegal to transport people in a tractor trailer in India, this rule is often ignored in rural areas.

India is known as a country with one of the highest numbers of road casualties in the world. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are killed and injured as a result of accidents, often caused by reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and outdated vehicles.
